Crime Lab Mysteries by S. Connell Vondrak, set in Washington, DC

About Me

Susan Connell Vondrak was born and grew up on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois, however, most of her childhood summers were spent in the small South Dakota town of Burke.  As a teenager, she moved, with her family, to Geneva, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.  She attended the University of Illinois – Champaign-Urbana.  In 1985, Susan was hired as a forensic scientist by the Illinois State Police.  She worked as a forensic scientist for ten years before taking a position to train people in forensic science.  In 2003, she accepted a position as the Director of Training.  She still works in this position, supervising the training of multiple disciplines in forensic science.  In January of 2009, Susan became the Director of Research and Development for the state forensic science laboratories in Illinois.

Susan still remains active in a number of forensic organizations such as the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS) and the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT).

Susan’s works are fiction but she brings a realistic aspect to crime lab mysteries through her intimate knowledge of the crime lab’s role in police investigations.
